Cbd Complementary Therapy for Cancer

CBD as a complementary therapy

The majority of the evidence available suggests that CBD and cannabis therapies may complement cancer treatment. CBD may help people with cancer by:

Stimulating appetite

CBD oil which may help with cancer

CBD oil may help relieve pain and stimulate appetite.

Many people who are going through cancer treatment experience nausea and loss of appetite.

These symptoms can make it difficult for them to maintain a healthy weight.

Ingested cannabis that delivers THC and other cannabinoids to the bloodstream my help stimulate the appetite, but there is no evidence that CBD alone can have this effect.

Pain relief

Both cancer and its treatment can lead to pain. Cancer often causes pain due to inflammation, pressure on internal organs, or nerve injury. When the pain is severe, it can even become resistant to opioids, which are powerful pain relievers.

CBD indirectly acts on the CB2 receptors, which may help with widespread pain relief by reducing inflammation.

Nausea

Cannabis and cannabinoids such as CBD may also be helpful for people with cancer who experience regular nausea and vomiting, especially when this is due to chemotherapy.

However, the antinausea effect appears to come from THC in cannabis, rather than from CBD. People looking to try cannabis to reduce nausea should prepare themselves for the potential psychoactive effects of THC in prescribed cannabis products and discuss them with a doctor.

Many people find relief from low doses of THC. Prescription versions of synthetic THC that have fewer side effects are available.

How CBD Might Control Cancer Cell Growth

CBD gravitates towards the CB2 receptors in the spleen, which is home to the immune system. CB2 is responsible for activating the immune system. CBD is biomimetic to the body’s anandamide, which naturally activates CB2 receptors. That means the body can use CBD and anandamide interchangeably. As such, when an injury, illness, or stress demands more from anandamide than the body can produce, the mimetic CBD is activated. If there is transitory stress, the therapeutic aid will be transitory. If this demand remains, like in the case of cancer, the therapeutic aid provides a sustained pressure of modulating agent on a homeostatic system.

Basically, once CBD gravitates towards the CB2 receptors, it seeks out cancer cells and destroys them. In fact, studies have shown that CBD has the ability to destroy cancer cells directly without the involvement of immune intermediaries. That’s because CBD can hijack the lipoxygenase pathway to inhibit the growth of cancerous tumors directly.

Possible Effects of Using Cannabidiol For Cancer Symptom Relief

The major advantage of using CBD to relieve cancer is the fact that it doesn’t have the side effects associated with strong chemical medications and it won’t make the patient loopy or “high”.  Even more so, it has been proven to have an array of positive effects on cancer patients.

These include:

  • Triggering the death of cancer cells
  • Preventing unhealthy cell division
  • Preventing the growth of tumors in the new blood vessels
  • Reducing the spread of cancer cells throughout the body
  • Speeding up the waste disposal mechanism of the body or autophagy which can cause the death of cells.

All these effects are caused by locking off of CB2 receptors with the use of CBD.

More studies are needed, but it is ALMOST confirmable that cannabidiol can be used as an effective complementary cancer therapeutic aid.

Firstly – What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia can be a diagnostic challenge. Fibromyalgia is medically classified as a “syndrome”, meaning it is a group of traits, signs and symptoms that occur simultaneously. Fibromyalgia symptoms vary widely from person to person, and the following is a list of possible symptoms.

Can Massage Help?

A recent consumer survey, commissioned by The American Message Therapy Association (AMTA), found that 91 percent of survey respondents agreed that massage can be effective in reducing pain, and nearly half of those polled (47 percent) have had a massage specifically for the purpose of relieving pain. Massage can directly reduce muscle soreness, by cleansing muscle tissues of metabolic wastes. The application of heat help calm pain for most fibromyalgia sufferers. I tend to use an infra red sauna blanket within my treatments.

Having Fibromyalgia and dealing with the pain and limitations also creates a lot of mental stress. Massage can provide great relief from stress and offer a chance for someone to take charge and provide necessary self-care. Research shows that Massage can help the body achieve deeper sleep and sleep quality . During Phase IV sleep, the body’s repair mechanisms go to work, and can improve inflammation responses, digestion and cognition and emotional stability. And who doesn’t feel better after a particularly good night of rest?

What should I know before I get a massage?

Massage can help, but it can also hurt. Everyone responds differently to massage. Some people get great relief from massage with deep pressure. However, others wind up sorer after a really firm massage than they were before. This is because for some people, Deep pressure creates inflammation. It is not uncommon to be a little bit sore for 24 hours after a massage, but if you are a lot sore, or if it lasts for longer than one day, you need to tell your therapist to ease up next time. Trust that you know your body better than anyone else, and if you don’t like something, it’s probably not good for you.

When you come to me for a treatment it is very important to always speak to me during the treatment so I know what pressure is working for you and what isn’t.  There is time for a silent energy healing session at the end of the bodywork treatment to help balance the energies and nervous system.

But what I’m talking about is the one thing that really successful people do and that is – They all get up early and create their day.  I don’t mean they write a list of all the things that needs to be done and off they pop.  I mean they all have their own rituals to make sure they are in a state of mind that will set them up for the rest of the day.

I have been practicing my own morning routine for the last few years and tweaked it here and there.  I absolutely love my time in the morning, it is my most fave time to create and really be myself and tune into the frequency that I want to emit for the day.

I practice energy healing so my morning routine would be different to those who are wanting to achieve other goals. But I really like Tony Robbins morning routine so I incorporate what he does after my self healing and yoga routine.  This helps my physical body for when I am with clients working on massage etc.  My morning routine helps to remind me of all I have and all I am grateful for.  When you are in a blessed state and you focus your energy on all the things that you are truly grateful for then more of those things will come your way in the most unexpected of ways.

So develop your own morning routine, Turn off your phone and get up an hour earlier and focus all your intention on what you want to create in your life and how you want to feel.

Where can I get CBD oil?

CBD is becoming readily available in health stores. Earlier this year, CBD oil launched at Holland & Barrett, starting at £19.99

However, Professor McGuire says it’s easy to get confused about what exactly it is that you’re buying. “The products sold in health stores often contain very small amounts of CBD, and may also be mixed with other compounds derived from cannabis.

“There is little evidence that these products have beneficial effects. In contrast, the CBD that has been found to be effective in clinical trials is pure CBD, and has a much higher dose.”

What percentage of CBD should I look for?

This will depend on what you’re looking to get from the oil.

The CBD oils sold in Holland & Barrett and other health stores contain up to 5% CBD. This can be beneficial when used as a health supplement.

Other oils available online contain up to 20% CBD – the most famous being ‘Charlotte’s Web’. Many claims have been made that products like these can alleviate mild to moderate mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression.

Here are 4 standards to look for when purchasing CBD medical hemp oil.

1. Extraction Methods

To obtain CBD-rich oil, you need to extract it from the cannabis plant. There are a handful of methods used, but typically this isn’t something customers know to ask about.

Not surprisingly, many companies use cheap methods that involve nasty toxic solvents such as propane, hexane, pentane, and butane, which are flammable hydrocarbon gases found in petroleum. Do you really want to consume this, especially if you are ill?

“Cannabis oil made with neurotoxic solvents like butane and hexane may leave unsafe residues that compromise immune function and impede healing,” explainsConstance Finley, founder and CEO of Constance Therapeutics.

Beware of companies who try to convince you that using a hydrocarbon method stays the most true to the plant. Butane is illegal for a reason.

“Butane extraction is cheap and efficient but is toxic to make and use,” adds cannabis and medicinal plant expert Medicine Hunter Chris Kilham. “Inhalation of butane residue can cause cardiac and respiratory problems.”

Some industry insiders argue that organic, pharmaceutical-grade ethanol, which is a grain alcohol, is optimal and eliminates certain toxins and residues in the raw plant material itself. But others say that while this extraction method yields a high amount of cannabinoids and is GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) for human consumption, it destroys the plant’s waxes, leading to a less potent oil.

Conversely, to preserve most of the plant’s trichromes – these are the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids – look for Supercritical (or subcritical) CO2 extraction. This method uses carbon dioxide under high pressure and extremely low temperatures to isolate, preserve, and maintain the purity of the medicinal oil. While this method is more expensive and involves complex equipment and expertise, it ensures quality.

“The CBD oil obtained through supercritical extraction is a full-spectrum cannabinoid-rich product,” says Elizabeth Moriarty, Clinical Herbalist and Formulator at Luminary Medicine Company. “This method also produces a cleaner taste, and meanwhile, mycotoxins cannot survive this process.”

It’s also eco-friendly and non-flammable, creating a safer laboratory and manufacturing environment, as well as better product control, says Gabriel Ettenson, licensed physical therapist and general manager of Elixinol, an organic Hemp CBD Oil company.

Finally, olive oil or coconut oil can also be used to extract cannabis oil. According to Dr. Arno Hazekamp, director of phytochemical research at Bedrocan BV, which supplies medical cannabis for the Dutch Health Ministry, this method is both safe and inexpensive. “You won’t blow yourself up making cannabis-infused olive oil.”

With that said, cannabis-infused olive oil — whether CBD-rich or THC-dominant — is perishable and should be stored in a cool, dark place.

2. Sourcing

The quality of CBD oil is really based on its source; where was it grown, how was it grown, and what is the species of cannabis (e.g., sativa, ruderalis, or indica).

“The soil, climate, plants growing on the farm next door, the flowers in the farmer’s garden, etc. are all reflected in the final essence of the plant,” says Finley.

The main reason why hemp’s cultivation environment is so important is because the cannabis plant is a “hyperaccumulator,” meaning it easily absorbs contaminants from the soil while it grows. In fact, it’s used in bioremediation, a cost-effective plant-based approach to clean the environment of toxic heavy metals and organic pollutants.

“This is sadly why industrial hemp grown in non-food grade conditions is falsely being sold as CBD medicine over the internet,” says Finley.

So if the soil is polluted with heavy metals, then that plant will likely contain high levels of lead or mercury. According to Frias, there have been instances where children have almost died taking hemp extracts that were high in lead.

Essentially, “those companies have given the rest of the CBD industry a black eye because they were more interested in profiting off the sick instead of creating a quality product and testing it.”

Look for brands who source their cannabinoids from organic-certified, hemp-grown farms in pristine regions of Europe. “The German regulatory system is strict and enforced, providing confidence in the superiority of their harvest, processes, and extraction quality,” adds Moriarity. wordswag_1530913339399-1010449129.png

Meanwhile, independent testing by accredited laboratories with globally accepted analytical methods ensures the organic extract is intact from pesticides, heavy metals, or microbiological contaminants. And reputable CBD companies have lab results from independent labs available on their websites, this can also be used as an indicator for consumers about what companies are providing high-quality CBD.

When it comes to the “best” genotype, it really depends upon what one is hoping to treat or effect.

3. Bioavailability

Unfortunately, there have been instances where products claiming to have CBD in them tested at zero percent in a lab attempting to verify the results. In fact, in 2015, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested products and fined companies that did not include any CBD despite reports. This also gives the industry a proverbial black eye.

So let’s say you are dealing with a product that contains CBD, the amount that actually enters the body and central nervous system is still a gray territory. In food products, cannabinoids are subject to degradation and reduced bioavailability, depending on overall formulation/delivery.

“The industry is pushing for more research here, as these studies on cannabis are relatively very new,” explains Joe Santucci of  Solstice, a commercial cannabis production company. “CBD can be an amazing, but a very expensive solution for those that need it, so maximizing bioavailability is going to be essential to lower the cost for people.

“In terms of ingestion, the general consensus is that sublingual (under the tongue) and/or rectal delivery provide the highest levels of bioavailability,” says Ettenson. Some believe that vaping also produces high bioavailability as well. “Topical and ingestion (through soft gels for example) have lower levels of absorption,” says Gabriel.

If you are vaporizing CBD-dominant strains of cannabis, bioavailability is through the alveoli, tiny sacs in the lungs, clarifies Kilham. If you are taking CBD strain capsules, he suggests eating some fat or oil, like a handful of nuts or some full-fat yogurt, to improve absorption and bioavailability. Cannabinoids are fat-loving molecules. They are taken up readily into the small intestine with a bit of dietary fat.

“The need for enhanced bioavailability of the CBD phytonutrient is paramount”, adds Moriarity, “but tricky to accomplish without synthetic chemicals.” Most CBD products do not offer any bioavailability optimization, so 90 percent of the CBD is lost to first-pass effect, a phenomenon of drug metabolism whereby the concentration of a drug is greatly reduced before it reaches systemic circulation.

Meanwhile, the products that do engage in optimization efforts “are generally using a synthetic chemical soup of solvents, surfactants, and emulsifiers — none of which must be disclosed on the label since they are characterized as ‘processing aids,’” says Moriarty, who co-formulated our Superior cannabinoid oil, the market’s leading solution.

The formulation, however, offers optimized delivery via mucosal membrane permeability in tandem with precision production/formulation methods. Her company, HERBOLOGIE, reduces the particle size of the cannabinoids and immerses them in a matrix of exclusively natural ingredients that work synergistically to enhance absorption through oral membranes. When cannabinoids are transported through membranes and directly into the bloodstream, the phytonutrients are delivered more quickly, and crucially, avoiding first-pass degradation in the liver.

“We know the manufacturing process can also influence bioavailability,” says Ettison. “For example, reducing the size of the CBD compound through the use of liposomes improves absorption and bioavailability.”

“When purchasing a CBD product, keep in mind that a transparent company’s CBD milligram (mg) strength is reflective of the actual active CBD in that particular product,” states Farias. “If a bottle says 250 mg of CBD, then that product should contain 250 mg of actual active CBD. However, a lot of companies currently in the market will list the mg dosage of their CBD hemp oil without publishing the strength of their actual active CBD.”

Ideally, look for CBD products that proportionately offer 4 or more parts CBD to 1 part THC, for maximum relief and minimal or no storage issues.

4. Greenwashing Tactics

Upon investigation there are companies that engage in the use of “window dressing.” For example, one popular brand brags that they use the superfood moringa. This of course lures people in. But keep in mind that for added antioxidant benefit, you would need to ingest 7.5 g (7,500 mg) within the context of a meal or beverage. The entire 30 ml bottle of said brand contains 33.3 mg; so at the recommended dose of 1 ml daily, the daily dose of moringa would only be 1.11 mg.

“The truth is that the gray zone of medicinal cannabis invites lots of shady characters into the burgeoning industry,” says Finley. “A lack of critical thinking, quality business practices, transparency about products and plants, all have been part of the black market.”

“When the conditions are “primed” in these four areas,  you set a high standard of quality for the whole plant efficacy, and CBD can provide outstanding health benefits for longevity and wellness in high grade medicinals used for health repair,” says Cherie Arnold, Founder and CEO of MediQI Energetics.

Look for products that are sold legally, with full transparency.

Research Studies into Reflexology

Impact of Reflexology on the Workplace Danish Study 1 A reflexologist was hired by a Scandinavian airline’s cargo department to improve staff morale and reduce sick leave for its 60 employees, resulting in monthly savings of US$3,300. This is what their employees said:

“Our work is done through computers and people spending many hours in a chair doing their work, resulting in aching shoulders and back. Since we employed our reflexologist we have experienced a substantial decrease of people being ill and away from work. It has had a physical and psychological effect. There is a much better atmosphere in the department, because the employees feel there is something being done about their problems. Before staff used to stay at home, now we see them go to work anyway because they know they can get a treatment and feel better.” (Research has been published and undertaken by the FDZ – the Danish Reflexology Association)

Danish Study 2 The Odense Postal District employed a reflexologist for 3 years to deal with employee stress. Two hundred and thirty five employees participated resulting in a 25% fall in sick leave, saving £110,000 and 170 employees reported a good impact on their health. (Research has been published and undertaken by the FDZ – the Danish Reflexology Association)

Danish Study 3 A reflexologist was employed for 6 months. 52 employees (all women) were treated for various ailments. Sick leave fell by 65.9% 97.5% had a positive effect on their primary problem 77.5% had a positive effect on their secondary problem They had a 27.5% reduction in medication. (Research has been published and undertaken by the FDZ – the Danish Reflexology Association)

Headaches and Migraines
The National Board of Health Study, Denmark This widescale study was commissioned in Denmark since there were 729,000 lost workdays in 1994 from migraines. The results showed that 19% of headache sufferers stopped taking medication following reflexology work. They found that reflexology treatments had a beneficial effect on patients suffering from migraine and tension headaches.

The study was conducted at the Department of Social Pharmacy, The Royal Danish School of Pharmacy in co-operation with 5 reflexology associations. 220 patients participated. The majority had moderate to severe symptoms: 90% had taken prescribed medication for their headaches one month prior to the study (81% was acetvlsalicyclic acid and paracetamol taken twice a week, with 72% of stronger medication taken fortnightly); with 36% experiencing side effects from the medicines. 34% had taken medication for other non-headache ailments.

3 months after completing the reflexology treatments, the results were:

16% had been cured 65% had reduced symptoms 19% reported that they had been able to stop all medication taken before the study. Those participants who continued with reflexology sessions after the six-month period reported the greatest probability for cure. Those who had headaches for the shortest period prior to the study reported the greatest relief after the study. One thing the researchers noticed that may have affected the study was that once receiving reflexology, many of the participants seemed to make lifestyle changes that reflected how they looked at their headaches. Prior to receiving reflexology, patients looked at their headaches as something separate from themselves over which they had no control. After working with a reflexologist, they seemed to understand the mind-body connection to their headache and how it could be controlled through the integration of the mind and body. It appeared that the reflexology practitioner became a catalyst for initiating the learning process and inspiring personal development in the patient. Reflexology was found to be as effective in the treatment of headaches as medication (flunarizine), without its side-effects. It was concluded that the reflexology treatment may be classified as an alternative non-pharmacological therapeutic treatment that would be particularly appropriate to those patients that were unable to follow pharmacological treatment. Chinese Study A Chinese study of 26 patients, 9 men and 17 women, from 19 to 43 years of age showed that after one session of foot reflexology, 13 of the participants considered themselves symptom free, and 1 reported symptoms relieved. After two sessions, 6 considered themselves to be cured and 1 reported to be symptom free. After three sessions, 2 participants said they were cured and 3 stated their symptoms were unchanged. The conclusion of this study was that reflexology is a safe, economic therapy.
Gynaecological Problems • Pre-menstrual syndrome • Various gynaecological disorders • Menopausal Symptoms • Amenorrhea • Male Impotence • Dymenstruation/(painful periods) • Hypermenorrhea/(excessive uterine bleeding)

Diabetes
Chinese Study 1 32 cases of type II diabetes mellitus were randomly divided into 2 groups. One group was treated with conventional Western Medicine hypoglycemic agent and reflexology, the other group with the same medicine only (WM).

After daily treatments over 30 days, fasting blood glucose levels, platelet aggregation, length and wet weight of the thrombus, senility symptom scores and serum lipid peroxide (LPO) were greatly reduced in the reflexology group (P,0.05-0.01), while no significant change was observed in the WM group.

The study suggested that reflexology was an effective treatment for type II diabetes mellitis. (Wang, X. M., “Type II diabetes mellitus with foot reflexotherapy,” Chuang Koh Chuang Hsi I Chief Ho Teas Chi, Beijing , Vol. 13, Sept. 1993, pp 536-538)

Chinese Study 2 22 cases with non-insulin dependent diabetes were split into 2 groups. The patients of both groups had taken hypoglycemic agents for a long time. Reflexology was provided daily for 30 days. Results: The indexes of the scores of senility, thrombocyte aggregation rates (TAR), the length and wet weights of thrombosis in vitro, and the serum oxidative lipids were measured to judge curative effect.

The results were so positive that the researchers recommend that further research using larger numbers of patients in controlled clinical trials into the effectiveness of reflexology in alleviating pain, nausea and anxiety in the management of these symptoms by the family at home is warranted. Cancer (Quality of life) Results: 100% of the reflexology group benefited from an improvement in quality of life: appearance, appetite, breathing, communication (doctors), communication (family), communication (nurses), concentration, constipation, diarrhoea, fear of future, isolation, micturition, mobility, mood, nausea, pain, sleep and tiredness. An improvement in all components of the quality of life scale was reported in the reflexology group compared to 67. 5 in the placebo group. This study suggests that the provision of reflexology for palliative patients within the general setting could be beneficial. Not only did the patients in this study enjoy the intervention, they were also ‘relaxed,’ comforted’ and achieved relief from some of their symptoms. Cancer (Anxiety and pain) Results: Foot reflexology alleviated anxiety and pain for 23 patients with breast and lung cancer. Researchers noted a significant decrease in anxiety for patients diagnosed with breast or lung cancer and a significant decrease in pain for patients with breast cancer. “This has important implications for nursing practice as both professionals and lay people can be taught reflexology. Reflexology is a simple technique for human touch which can be performed anywhere, requires no special equipment, is non-invasive and does not interfere with patients’ privacy.” (Stephenson, N. Reflexology – Does it REALLY work??

Hell Yes….and not just because I am a reflexologist either but the only reason I became one was because it helped me with horrific Migraines every month.  Hormonal Migraines from my teens just debilitated me for a day or two each month and the pills doctors prescribed put me off taking medication again as the side effects out weighed the pain.

So I turned to Reflexology and the rest is as they say History.

What exactly is it??

There are reflex points in the feet, hands and ears link to the body’s organs, glands and  systems. When these reflex points are massaged, the body’s own self-healing begins. For example, massage of the big toe, which is linked through the energy channels to the head, can activate the body’s own healing processes to help alleviate or prevent headache. The holistic definition of a ‘disease’ is an imbalance or a blockage in the body. So if a therapist finds sensitivity or tension in one spot of the feet or hands, it indicates an imbalance within the part of the body related to that area. Once we remove this blockage and allow the energy to flow freely, the symptoms may disappear and the body will return to a healthy and balanced state. I would not call it a medical treatment and it is not a cure in itself  – healing is something only the body can do. Rather, reflexology facilitates, helps and supports the body to heal itself. It should always be considered as a supplementary to formal medical advice and treatment for serious conditions.

 

Reflexology in the foot is the most popular treatment. I think this is because feet are normally more responsive than the palms of the hands and being larger, they make the reflex points easier to identify and the skin is more sensitive there because it’s usually covered by shoes.

BENEFITS OF REFLEXOLOGY

While there are many people who believe in the potential benefits of reflexology, there are also controversial opinions about it. Some scientists say it doesn’t work at all, while others think the opposite. It’s still neither well-documented nor researched. However, there have been several recent studies which have reported benefits and you can find links to them at the end of this article.

 

Some of the potential benefits of reflexology are:

 

Stimulation of the nervous system:

Reflexology can stimulate over 7,000 different nervous endings within a single session. As we get older and our bodies age, our nerve endings become less sensitive and reflexology can improve their function and reaction. It also opens and clears out neural pathways around the body. These pathways are like muscles and keeping them toned and active improves the connections between nerve endings and the brain.

 

Internal organ stimulation:

When you press specific pressure points, the internal organs to which they are connected through the nerve endings and meridians/energy channels are stimulated.  This means they can work more effectively.

 

Immune system improving: 

By pressing on specific pressure points, specific glands such as the tonsils, thyroid, thymus, spleen and liver are stimulated. This helps improve and balance the immune and lymphatic systems.

 

Decreasing Blood Pressure:

Blood pressure can be reduced by massaging the main hypertension reflex points relating to the  kidney/adrenal gland, lungs, head, liver, solar plex(us)  and heart.

Kidneys can’t excrete EXCESS sodium and this can cause fluid retention (edema) and raised blood pressure. The adrenal gland is known as a fight-or-flight (stress) producer. So by massaging the adrenal reflex point, it can help bring down stress levels and lower the blood pressure.

The renin-angiotensin system is a hormone system which regulates blood pressure and fluid balance. When it is overactive, it can cause a vasoconstriction and retention which can lead to hypertension. Massaging the liver reflex leads to vasodilation (dilation of the blood vessels) and a lowering of blood pressure.

The solar plexus is often called the abdominal brain, or the second brain. It is closely related to the digestive system.  In massaging the reflex point for the solar plexus, the digestive system is stimulated and helped to work better.

Lungs are responsible for the renin-angiotensin system and oxygenation of the blood. A massage of the lungs reflex points helps to lower the blood pressure.

An overactive nervous system leads to an increase in the stress responses and elevated adrenalin. Using pressure on the head/brain reflex point can help to decrease stress levels.

Proper functioning of the heart valves is very important for it to do its work of pumping blood through the body.   To keep the cardiovascular system toned and balanced, it’s really important to stimulate the heart reflex point.

 

Stimulating Digestive System:

Our body gets all the enzymes, vitamins, minerals it needs through good food and the proper working of our digestive system. By pressing and stimulating reflex points related to bowel and the digestive system, including the teeth, jaw, esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and  small and big intestines,  the overall system is helped to work properly and in its turn, keeps us healthy.

 

Boosted Energy Levels:

By stimulating the working of different organs and systems, reflexology can increase metabolism, blood circulation and detoxification. It can help bring the body back into balance and boost energy levels.

Reflexology can also be very effective in alleviating anxiety.

 

Detoxification:

Toxins can accumulate within our body because of our rushed modern life style, combined with bad quality food and a stressful environment. Reflexology can help improve the urinary system and bladder function to more effectively eliminate toxins and other foreign substances and may help protect the body from various diseases and health conditions.

So it can help to destroy cancer cells and slow down the cancer spreading.

 

Pregnancy state, labour and postpartum easing:

Scientific studies have shown that reflexology can help balance the hormonal and emotional states during pregnancy and can help ease anxiety. Additionally it can help with other pregnancy conditions, such as general aches and pains, anaemia, haemorrhoids, sleeplessness, morning sickness, digestive problems and heartburn. Reflexology is also very popular to help shorten the period of labour and as a natural analgesic. However, it should only be used when the baby is ready to arrive and not before! And after the birth, reflexology can help the body recover faster and reduce postpartum depression.

What is reflexology?
We are all familiar with the classic ‘knee-jerk’ response – the doctor taps the patient below the knee, and his lower leg bounces up into the air – if you do something to one part of the body you can cause a reaction in another part.

Reflexology applies this response to the whole body. By applying pressure to points on your feet and hands, you can treat and heal problems elsewhere in the body.
Reflexology is based on similar principles to acupuncture and some types of massage – that our bodies are mapped by channels of energy, or “qi” (pronounced “chee’); we feel pain, or generally unwell, when the flow of that energy is blocked in some way. By putting pressure on one part of these channels, the reflexologist sends an impulse or message all the way along it, which unblocks it and encourages the energy to flow freely again.

This in turn brings us back into good health and a sense of balance and well-being, and stimulates our body’s own healing responses.

What is reflexology good for?
Many people go to see a reflexologist as they might go for a massage: to help with their general health, and to make them feel relaxed and calm. But because it is such a comprehensive treatment, reflexology can help you in many other ways, with anything from a trapped nerve to depression.

Before you go

Precautions
You should always let your therapist know:
of any medical conditions you have, and treatment or medication you are receiving
if you are, or think you might be, pregnant
if you have recently had an operation or surgery
if you have had any injuries that might affect your treatment – such as a recently healed broken ankle
as this may affect the type of treatment you can have.
What to expect from reflexology
On the first visit, the reflexologist will chat with you about your general health and lifestyle.

Reflexology is not a foot massage. The reflexologist may massage your feet a little to relax you before they start, but the technique itself is about applying firm pressure to specific points on the foot.
The technique can feel a bit odd at first; it can also be a bit overwhelming. Imagine a pain you have had for years in your shoulder melting away in seconds as someone puts pressure on the ball of your foot! Tension can be released, and pain dissolved, very quickly.

A treatment session usually lasts for about an hour. You will probably get a lot out of a single session but you may want to have several more.

Afterwards

You are likely to feel very relaxed after a session; you may feel like having a snooze or a long bath, and luxuriating in the feeling a bit longer. On the other hand, depending on your treatment, you may feel really energised. Some people even feel tearful afterwards, just from the release of tension.

Your reaction is not always predictable but the likelihood is that you’ll feel much better when you come out than you did when you went in.
